Young People Committed to Serving Their Community: Madagascar's Social Peace Mission Soap Project

The Madagascar Soap Project (MSP) is much more than just an initiative; It is a source of inspiration for young people full of dedication and creativity. By joining forces and energy, these young volunteers are committed to transforming lives in rural Madagascar, where socio-economic, environmental and health challenges seem insurmountable.

Every field mission is worth a challenge!

Despite their courage and determination, the villagers of Madagascar struggle daily to support themselves. They engage in income-generating activities without improvement in innovative techniques such as handicrafts, agriculture and animal husbandry, while these means are often not enough to lift their families out of poverty. However, their thirst for change is palpable, and this is where our project comes in.

The Malagasy Rural Community: A Treasure of Initiative and Resilience

The Malagasy are a people with great motivation, know-how rich in culture, diversity and natural resources, but too often, socio-political circumstances and mode of governance limit their ambitious actions. They are desperate for ways to improve their lives, but the opportunities for young leaders and exploited young talents are in the minority. The villages are animated by self-subsistence and archaic activities, but the thirst for new opportunities is a guarantee of the success of the intervention work within the beneficiary communities. It is in this thirst for lasting change that MSP finds its raison d'être.

The Impact of an Inspiration: Testimonials from our Young Leaders

The driving force behind our organization, mainly students from multidisciplinary fields, are committed to bringing new hope and action on sustainable social and behavior change in MSP's areas of intervention. These young people have chosen to devote their energy and talent not only to their own future, but also to the future of their community. Their commitment is a testament to the power of youth when guided by noble values. Thus, the socio-professional integration of young graduates into the world of work is still a process, especially in areas of high pressure and follow-up such as non-governmental organizations. One of MSP's challenges is to integrate these young people into finding their skills with the "Learning by doing" approach. This willingness to learn and take initiative in action is one of our differences among other initiative leaders. Together we can demonstrate how much young people can contribute to sustainable economic growth, if they have the full power to lead their own success. Since 2022, with the collaboration in a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene pilot project supported by UNICEF Madagascar in the rural commune of Evato, Dsitrict de Farafangana, Madagascar, 95% of the workers are young people under 35 years old, and it is a success!

After a feasibility study in December 2023, on the implementation of artisanal soap producers of the GIZ-Prosar - Atsimo Atsinanana Region project, these young people demonstrated more skills to complete their community intervention, data collection and analysis until a restitution of a mission report rich in recommendations and productive solutions for development organizations and their reciprocal partners. The Madagascar Soap Project will always remain the ally of young people. It is its objective to contribute to this march towards the employability of young people, through capacity and skills building, as well as integration into the professional world after academic studies, according to the National Youth Policy and the African Union's Agenda 2063.

Meeting: Two young women, Manitra and Cinthia, share their inspiring story and experience with the MSP

Manitra-H. Sololalao, Communications Manager

"MSP has been inspiring. Before I knew this organization, I was only looking for what to do with my life but destiny for oneself, because that's what we're constantly taught. Discovering another way to use my skills was an eye-opener. I never thought that I could make a difference for my fellow citizens because I am still a young student still looking for social security. But by learning the values of civic engagement within MSP and my role as a master of the IEC, Information, Education and Communication with our hygiene awareness etc. I realize that each initiative brings resilient action to vulnerable Malagasy households and their daily lives."

Cinthia P. Rasoamampionona, Administrative and Financial Manager

"Engaging with MSP was a real eye-opener for me. As a  Master II student in Management, I had the chance to take charge of the accounting and finance of the organization, a responsibility that allowed me to develop essential skills and gain valuable experience. But what touches me most is MSP's commitment to promoting financial education in rural villages in Madagascar. I know how crucial this education is for the financial autonomy of the inhabitants, and I am proud to contribute to this mission. Thanks to MSP, many doors have opened for me, not only professionally, but also personally. No matter where life takes me, MSP will always hold a special place in my heart."
